Milan is a joy with children: all the Italian art, food and friendliness, plus the buzz of design and fashion. If you’re wondering what to do with kids beyond the Duomo, my favourite neighbourhood—Sempione—packs green space, culture and easy eats into one walkable loop.
Why Sempione?
Tucked behind the vast Parco Sempione, this area feels local and relaxed, with tiny cafés and indie shops. It’s less hectic than the centre and full of kid-friendly stops.
A simple, stroller-friendly itinerary
Start: M1 “Cairoli” (Castello).
Walk towards Castello Sforzesco to admire the fountain, majestic courtyards and towers. Inside you’ll find several museums and the children’s space Sforzinda, which often runs tours and workshops for ages 4–13. (Check current schedule before you go.)
From the castle, enter Parco Sempione. On the Arena side sits the Civic Aquarium in a beautiful Liberty-style building—one of the oldest in Europe. Kids love spotting 100+ Italian freshwater and coastal species and learning about local habitats.

Inside the park, you’ll find playgrounds, bike/roller areas and seasonal rides (think little train and bumper cars). It’s easy to spend an hour here.
A short stroll away is Triennale Milano (Design Museum), with inspiring exhibitions and occasional creative workshops for kids. The fenced garden is gold: little ones can run safely while you enjoy a very deserved spritz.

Snack & brunch ideas
-
Bar Bianco, right in the park, for coffees, sandwiches, salads and drinks.
-
Around Arco della Pace and along Corso Sempione, you’ll find plenty of family-friendly spots (Jazz Café, Living, and others), some offering kid entertainment at Sunday brunch.
-
Gelato stop: Gusto 7 (Via Cagnola) does seasonal flavours—basil, pumpkin or ricotta are fun bets.
Don’t miss: a tiny shopping detour
Just a short walk from Arco della Pace you’ll find Apple Pie – Kids & Lifestyle Boutique (Via Cirillo 14). Pop in for unique gifts, toys, clothing and accessories for babies and children—perfect souvenirs you’ll actually use.
